About the author

Geneviève McLaughlinChildren’s book author Geneviève McLaughlin’s passion for creating stories emerged as a young child. Having lost her mother to Lupus when she was four, one of her biggest comforts was when her father and grandmother would read her bedtime stories. In her later youth she immersed herself in fantasy tales and began penning her own stories, winning the Etobicoke Public Library Award for young authors at the age of eleven. She was hooked, and her dream to be published was born.

When she isn’t writing inventive stories for children, Geneviève enjoys hiking with her family, landscape painting, working on dioramas, and cooking multicultural foods. With a heritage hailing from France, Ireland, Scotland, and the Philippines, Geneviève lives in Toronto, Canada, with her husband, two children, and their two cats and a cockapoo. Emily Bean and the Flying Machine is her debut children’s book.

Here is our Review

This is such a sweet story.  Emily Bean and the Flying Machine by Geneviève McLaughlin is one of those wonderful books that present as a picture book for young children but which has plenty to teach older readers. It will illuminate imaginations and spark curious minds to infinity and beyond. The story features a young girl named Emily who dreams of creating a magical flying car and exploring all the planets in the universe along with her teddy bear, Theodore. On the launch day, Emily and Theodore gather all the essentials needed for their space adventure including crayons, strings, cookies, and milk. Off they go on a magical galactic adventure, traveling the stars and landing on all the different planets in the universe, and returning home just in time for bedtime. Grab your spacesuit and put your helmet on – you’re going on an adventure in space.

If your child has been asking questions about space, they are sure to enjoy this book, talking about rockets and launch pads. Beautiful illustrations by Mykhail Ridkous and an out-of-this-world adventure make this picture book perfect for an astronomical bedtime.
