The girls learn to trust themselves. They solve problems. They build, create, investigate, and persist through setbacks. Rather than magically becoming fearless, they simply become more courageous each time they choose to keep going.
As Carol’s father wisely says early in the story:
“Every act of strength leads to another act of strength… Courage begets courage.”
That message echoes beautifully throughout the novel.
