Our Review

Cheerful the Angry Chicken by Joanna Rose is a heart-warming and entertaining book with important life lessons for kids: managing anger and frustration, and having the courage to stand up for what you believe in!

It’s natural to feel angry and frustrated at times but helping kids understand their strong emotions – and especially how to cope with these emotions.  Cheerful the Angry Chicken by Joanna Rose is a sweet and gentle picture book that follows the story of a happy little chicken who experiences anger when she decides to participate in the morning wakeup call with the roosters. Instead of encouraging Cheerful, roosters make fun of her, call her names, and tell her that she is not capable of doing the wake-up call as she is just a little chicken. But Cheerful is determined to participate and to do the morning call for the farm. With the help of her friends, Cheerful got her joy back and her desire to wake up others led her to wake up to her own possibilities and dreams. She also learns that it takes patience and practice to achieve desired goals.

We are very impressed with the breathtaking illustrations, the colors are attention-grabbing and gorgeous. Through beautiful pictures and an adorable storyline, this book helps kids understand and recognize anger, then helps them find strategies to handle anger and finally demonstrates ways that anger can be resolved. Apart from teaching kids how to deal with the strong emotions, Joanna’s book further helps open up the dialogue between you and your children about the difficult conversation about bullying that is extremely important. Talking to kids about these intense feelings can help, but books and stories can also let kids recognize their feelings and help them understand appropriate ways to respond in times of anger or frustration. Cheerful the Angry Chicken is a perfect story to show children that uniting together and standing up for what you believe in can change things for the better.

We are sure Cheerful the Angry Chicken is a perfect story for reading aloud or anytime enjoyment, but particularly for bedtime reading. We hope it will be a fun and happy addition to your family’s library to encourage sweet dreams.

Kindergarten CEO: The Struggle is Real by The Kid CEO

Hey there,

As many parents know, oftentimes kids have difficulty adjusting to new situations. Today on the Reading with Your Kids Podcast, we’re proud to introduce a wonderful book, Kindergarten CEO: The Struggle is Real by Aramis Verano a.k.a. The Kid CEO. When 7-year-old Aramis Verano got in trouble for fighting with a classmate, he decided to write a book about bullying. This book is fully illustrated by Aramis, as well.

The book is Aramis’s real story and the struggles he went through his kindergarten year. His experiences are not unique to him, because it is something that millions of kids face a year. What makes this children’s book unique is that it is written and illustrated story from a child’s perspective. Aramis VeranoAramis “The Kid CEO” Verano was inspired to write Kindergarten CEO: The Struggle is Real, when he was 6 years old, at the end of his kindergarten year.  At the beginning of his school year, he faced multiple struggles including being bullied, getting sent to the principal’s office because of his anger that stemmed from being bullied,  and learning how to control his behaviors in class.  After getting help from multiple people, such as his school counselor,  teacher, and family members, Aramis was able to end his school year on a high note. His vision is to help other kids learn from his mistakes and teach them how to go from “bad choices” to “good choices” so they don’t end up in the principal’s office and learn how to manage being bullied.
