His greatest pleasures of parenthood are bringing smiles and joy to his children and he loves watching them learn and grow. Due to the untimely tragedy of losing his daughter Aviva at 10 months old, Hans is motivated to share the beautiful story of her life and bring smiles to children all over the world.

Baby Aviva Orangutan Diva: A Jungle Quest to Discover Inner Strength is an absolutely adorable rhyming picture book written by Hans Kullberg and illustrated by Carl Mefferd.

The story follows a young orangutan named Baby Aviva who lives in the canopy with her mother in the tropical rainforest. Baby Aviva is full of life. Her favorite hobbies include swinging from the treetops to singing beautiful melodies for birds and bees. She is blessed with a soulful voice that is adored by all the animals in the jungle. Baby Aviva is not only a great singer but is also very brave and courageous. Her resilience is tested when her family and friends face a food crisis. She decides to cross a river with her elephant friend Sofia to find the golden bananas to bring back home. But will they survive against crocodiles and a hungry tiger on the other side?

We absolutely loved the illustrations and can’t express how much we admire the art and writing which has brought this rainforest into our room. We especially enjoy that we see the whole colorful habitat, with the other animals and birds that inhabit the forest. The story is not long and a young reader can flick through it in ten minutes or so, making it a great addition to any family library.

We love it when children’s books don’t lose their cuteness and entertainment factor in order to be educational. This book managed to do it all.  The words teach a lot to children. It highlights many important topics such as friendship, teamwork, and staying true to one’s self.
