HERE’S OUR REVIEW

If your child isn’t talking at school or in public but has no problem talking and communicating at home, get our latest certified great read, Silent Sally Speaks! Your child may have selective mutism. In this short, easy to read children’s book

Silent Sally Speaks, a beautiful picture book by Payal Burnham features a bright-eyed, timid little girl named Sally who speaks quietly. Though Sally wishes her voice came out loud, her words instead slip out a shy as a secret. She is too shy to say even Hi or Hello. Sally has no problem talking to her parents in loud voice. But when she starts school, she loses the confidence to use her voice and goes about her school day in silence. With time, patience, understanding and love and support from all those around her, Silent Sally gathers the courage to speak up and discovers her sweet voice.

Silent Sally Speaks is a beautifully illustrated and positive book for both therapists and parents of primary-age children with selective mutism. Payal burnham beautifully describes how Sally feels in different situations, both at home and at school – feelings that will resonate with many kids with selective mutism. With delightful artwork, this story will help children with selective mutism feel as though they are not alone, as well as offering parents and professionals a way to begin a conversation with a child about their selective mutism and suggest the steps to help them.

Final Verdict

Simple text written in verses, combined with a strong character who solves her own problem, make this book a perfect addition to your kids library. It can also be used by teachers in classrooms to encourage language expression and confidence to make themselves heard. Readable, relatable and essential in the library of any parent with a younger kid with selective mutism.
