Congratulations to Nita Marie Clark!

Danny’s Reading Problem and the Fun He Had Fixing It! is our latest Certified Great Read!

LET’S HAVE A LOOK AT THE BOOK BLURB

Danny, may have been pretending to use his tablet, but he really was thinking about what his dad had said while practicing his speech in the car, “If humans had never asked questions we would still be living in caves. It takes smart people to solve our problems and smart people get smarter by seeking information from smarter people and that is why we are here today!”

Review of Danny's Reading Problem by Nita ClarkDanny jumped up from his chair.

His Dad was right, Danny was struggling with reading, and he knew he needed help, he needed to talk to the smartest person he knew. He needed to talk to . . .

Grammy!

Danny, kind of groaned, he knew his ABC’s. Grammy replied yes, Danny did know his alphabet, but did he know how just 26 letters could create more the than 140,000 words that were currently being used in our English vocabulary?

Did he know that six of those letters were, like the big shots of the show, because at least one of them had to appear in every one of those words?

Learning to read was like chipping away at a giant iceberg. Recognizing the letters and reciting them in order only chipped away a tiny sliver! However if he knew how to figure out words he could knock off a very big chunk and that would help him read.

Grammy had one more question. Could Danny tell her what the most important word he needed to know in any story?

Danny said of course, he could not, no one could, not even a genius! Grammy laughed and made a very loud buzzing sound to let Danny know, his answer was wrong!

The most important word to know . . . is the next one! And if he learned how to figure out words, he would never have to worry about his ability to read a book!

After all books are just words strung together to make sentences, sentences are strung together to make paragraphs that are strung together to tell a story and Grammy had a story she was about to share!

More About Nita Marie Clark

Nita Marie Clark

Nita Marie Clark has accomplished many things in her lifetime. Starting school in a one-room schoolhouse in Barnesville, Ohio, moving to Canton, Ohio as a young child, losing her mother when she was only eight years old, going back to Barnesville at twelve to take care of her ailing grandmother by herself. But that was merely the early years.

Marrying the love of her life, Bill and together they raised six children. Being active in her children’s lives, Nita was a den mother for her sons’ cub scout troop, volunteered in the school library, and was PTO president.

As her children grew up and moved away, Nita was facing an empty nest. Never being one to sit still, Nita, along with the help of her husband, started her own business. A Nete Idea Sign Rental rented special occasion lawn greeting sign displays designed and created by Nita and Bill. Together they spent 31 years delivering joyous memories to customers celebrating the wonderful and fun times in their lives.

In 2017, Nita’s eyesight failing, along with other problems brought on by a negative reaction to medicine, Nita faced life-altering changes. To keep her spirits up, Nita started telling her great-granddaughter, Lilli stories about one of her lawn greeting displays. These stories centered on a green and yellow silly dragon that Nita affectionately called Shenanigan. Loving the stories so much, Lilli encouraged Nita to write them down.

Together with her daughter, Kathy, started A Neat Read Publishing, LLC. With Kathy as her partner and illustrator Nita continues to create wonderful children’s reading.

HERE’S OUR REVIEW

Nita Clark’s Danny’s Reading Problem is a heartwarming and insightful children’s book that addresses the challenges of learning to read through the lens of family support, creativity, and determination. The story beautifully illustrates how love, patience, and a little humor can transform a daunting problem into an opportunity for growth and connection.

The book centers on Danny, a young boy struggling with reading and feeling downhearted. His grandparents, Grammy and Gramps, are determined to help him overcome this challenge during his visit while his parents are away at a science conference. The story unfolds with light-hearted moments and valuable lessons, as Grammy and Gramps combine their wisdom and humor to guide Danny on his journey to becoming a confident reader.

One of the book’s strengths is its portrayal of intergenerational bonds. The relationship between Danny and his grandparents is depicted with warmth and affection, making it easy for readers to connect with the characters. Grammy and Gramps are both endearing and relatable, with Gramps providing comic relief through his corny jokes and playful antics, while Grammy takes a more thoughtful and structured approach to help Danny understand the complexities of the English language.

Clark’s use of metaphor and imaginative teaching techniques is a standout feature of the book. For instance, Grammy’s introduction of the “third eye” concept to help Danny visualize words is a clever way to make reading feel less intimidating. Similarly, the use of a silly story filled with keywords to reinforce phonics is not only educational but also highly entertaining, ensuring that young readers remain engaged throughout the book.

The narrative also touches on important themes such as perseverance, self-confidence, and the value of seeking help when faced with difficulties. Danny’s journey is not just about learning to read; it’s about learning to believe in himself and understanding that it’s okay to ask for help when needed. Grammy and Gramps embody the supportive role that every child needs when facing challenges, reminding Danny that learning is a process that requires patience and persistence.

Danny’s Reading Problem is an excellent resource for both parents and educators, offering practical insights into how to approach reading difficulties in a way that is both fun and effective. It provides a roadmap for how to turn a potentially stressful situation into a positive experience filled with laughter, love, and learning.
