Engineers help make the world better, safer and more fun!
This wonderful book written by Reagan miller introduces young kids to Engineering and is suitable for ages 4 to 10. It explains how many of the things we use everyday are designed by engineers such as video games and sports equipment, to cars and cleaning products. This exciting book include child-centred examples and engaging text to capture the readers attention as they explore the connections between engineering, science, and technology, and discover how engineering impacts our day-to-day lives.
This book starts with a riddle: What does a bridge, running shoes and a roller coaster have in common? This book is easy to read and is enhanced with colourful illustrations to capture the young readers attention. Author has used simple language and covers different topics such as What do engineers do, What kinds of things do they design and how it is improved by the many different kinds of engineers. It also explains how technology is both helpful and harmful, and how designed things are different from naturally occurring things. It talks about engineers solving problems and the process they use to solve problems and or improve on things to make the world a better & a safer place. There is a word index in the back with pronunciation and definitions of difficult words in the text. There is also a questionnaire to help young readers decide if engineering is for them and where to learn more.
Overall, I found this book highly informative & engaging. It also ask questions which encourages children to think about things. Children will identify the engineering that impacts their day-to-day life. Readers will also find insightful sidebars, text-dependent questions, word Index and research projects to encourage deeper analysis. I highly recommend this book and look forward to sharing this with my 5 year old niece.
