The ABCs of Rose by JRenee Heimerman

The ABCs of RoseRose is teased at school and feels bad about herself. When her Mom hears her crying, she decides to teach Rose how powerful words are when they follow the words I AM. Rose learns that she has the power to determine how she feels about herself, not the kids at school that bully her.

To help Rose see herself more accurately and positively, Rose’s mom makes up a fun game called The ABCs of Rose using the concept of “I AM.”

Through this game, Rose learns that her thoughts are powerful enough to overcome any teasing. She decides that mean things bullies say do not need to affect her anymore.

By playing the game in The ABCs of Rose with your child, he or she will learn a new way of thinking that will encourage his or her confidence.

Our Review

“The best book for raising confident children”

A great resource to kick-start a discussion on bullying and using the positive concept of “I AM,” to improve self-esteem in children, is the picture book, THE ABCs OF ROSE. Written by JRenee Heimerman and illustrated by Mariana Flores, the book cover has an inviting bright and cheerful cover featuring a cute little girl that capture your imagination before you even read the blurb. JRenee has written an uplifting book that will resonate with young kids, especially those who have experienced bullying or feel different from their peers.

In this beautifully illustrated, heart-warming story, a little girl named Rose is often teased by some mean kids in her school, for wearing glasses and for being shorter than all the other kids in her class. They tease her to no end and this makes Rose very sad. On one such day, Rose is back from the school crying and on seeing Rose in tears, her mother decides to teach Rose that words are powerful. To help Rose see herself confidently and positively, Rose’s mom makes up an amusing game called The ABCs of Rose using the concept of “I AM.”

To play this game, for each letter of the alphabet, Rose and her mother has to come up with something that describes Rose that starts with that letter. It requires them to add different words(like “brave,” “zippy,” “silly”).  With the help of her mother and through this creative game of ABC’s, Rose develops stronger feelings of self-confidence and self-esteem.

Good self-esteem helps children try new things, take healthy risks and solve problems. It gives them a solid foundation for their learning and development. The ABC”s of Rose encourages kids to try new things, finding things they’re good at and praising themselves for things that are important to them. It also teaches that “To have positive events in your life you need to think positively and thinking positively is done with positive words. With the help of this sweet and fun story, children will learn to use positive words so that they can become aware of who they actually are. And to Love and accept themselves. The message is so clear and so motivating. Perhaps even more remarkable, even the oldest readers find it inspiring too! Young readers will be empowered by this story’s fun use of ABC’s and positive words to describe themselves. The little Rose sure is!

Final Verdict

Overall, The ABC’s of Rose is a charming little storybook that is an excellent tool, that not only helps teach children how to process their feelings when they have been bullied, but also how others feel when they bully their classmates. This book is guaranteed to capture the young reader’s minds, as well as their hearts.

We highly recommend for parents, teachers, and school counselors.
