Reading with Your Kids Podcast Ft. Certified Health Coach & Author, Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed., C.H.C
Happy Thursday!
A food allergy diagnosis can be devastating enough for an adult. This experience is even more daunting for a child. Young kids may struggle to understand what is going on with their bodies and not have the words to fully describe how they feel physically or emotionally. Our podcast today features a certified health coach who will join us to discuss food allergies in kids and how to help your child understand what it means to have a food allergy and how to stay safe.
Please welcome Colleen Brunetti
Listen in as Colleen has a heart to heart conversation with Jed about her picture book, her inspiration for writing this book and shares some of her thoughts on guiding kids through the acceptance of their diagnosis on food allergies, and navigating having to eat differently than all their friends. Colleen also shares some advice for parents on how to explain to kids that certain foods can make them very sick and to use a positive tone to have kids follow your lead. Be sure to join in for all the insights!
More about the author
Colleen Brunetti, M.Ed., C.H.C. was born in California and raised in Vermont. From the time she was a very young child, she devoured books. That love of reading led her first to a Masters Degree in Literacy, and later to writing her own books. She is also a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. A gifted and seasoned public speaker, Colleen is available for school visits (in person and virtual), workshops, and keynotes.
Whether for adults or children, at the heart of Colleen’s writing is one message: You define the life you love.
Her books are learning tools, intertwined with captivating storytelling. Her children’s books include comprehensive Common Core Aligned curriculums, and her work for adults provides hands-on activities that spur the reader to action.
Colleen’s first book, “Defining the New Normal: A Guide to Becoming More Than Your Diagnosis,” tells the story of triumph over a life-threatening diagnosis and teaches others to do the same: to thrive, not just survive, no matter what the medical charts say.
Colleen’s children’s books run on lighter themes, but always with an eye of finding hope, fun, and beauty in a challenge. “Aidan the Wonder Kid Who Could Not Be Stopped” takes a lighthearted and beautifully illustrated approach to tackling acceptance of kids food allergies and intolerances.
Her future works (in progress) will continue to build on the themes of accepting and embracing the challenge while creating a world for yourself in which you can thrive.
