Our Review
Universal Message, beautifully expressed, lovingly illustrated!
Be Happy to Be You is a children’s picture book written by Diane Hull and illustrated by Jan Dolby. Filled with beautifully illustrated pictures and simple text, this book is an absolute treat for children and adults alike!
Charming from the start, this whimsically illustrated story follows a little bird who is not happy with his life and envies other animals. He keeps comparing himself with the other animals and wishes to do everything they can do. He looks at the fish in the river and tells his mother that he wants to swim. His mom reminds him that he can fly high in the sky. When he looks at horses in the field, he wants to run and when he sees the frogs jumping, he wants to jump across the lily pads, too. His mother constantly reminds of his own skills and gifts that he is blessed with. She advises him to value his strengths and tells him “To Be Happy To Be You”.
One day Baby bird catches a cold. He gets weak and unable to follow his daily routine, he is required to rest and stay in his nest for a few days. He couldn’t fly or sing and couldn’t sit on the tree. He felt sad and wished to be able to enjoy things that made him feel special. When he recovered, he flapped his wings, flew high into the sky, sat in the tree and watched the world go by. He realizes his self-worth and is finally happy to be himself, which is actually amazing, fun, and wonderful!
The ability to being happy is appreciating and liking what you have, instead of what you don’t have. This positive and empowering picture book, by author Diane Hull, will help kids to embrace who they are and look for their unique potential and become strong, happy, awesome adults.
Illustrations in vibrant colors perfectly match this celebration of self-love and acceptance. Be Happy To Be You cleverly delivers the important messages of acceptance, understanding, and confidence in an easy, child-friendly format. Targeted at young kids first beginning to read, this book will inspire kids to celebrate their uniqueness.
Final Verdict
Overall, BE HAPPY TO BE YOU is a sweet, quick read that your little ones will be sure to love. Like the little bird, many kids are not satisfied with their lives and hopefully, this book will help them to cope with self-doubt and offer them an opportunity to discuss their feelings!
