Hey everyone, Today we’re thrilled to introduce our listeners to a very talented debut picture book author Katelyn Mabry!

Katelyn is a conference presenter, an educator and an ADHD coach/consultant. She is here to celebrate her rhyming picture book for children, “Hi, It’s Me! I Have ADHD.” Diagnosed at age 10 with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, Katelyn wrote this book so other kids don’t feel the same way she did. ADHD is a disorder that makes it difficult for a person to pay attention or control impulsive behavior.

Katelyn wrote this book and her brother drew the illustrations, based on her personal experiences. She hopes the story touches the hearts of many children so that they will never feel alone. In our exciting interview, Katelyn talks about her goal to educate, empower, and encourage the understanding of how the ADHD brain works and find the many incredible gifts beneath the diagnosis!

untitled-6.jpgKatelyn Mabry was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 10. It left her feeling very alone and different. She struggled with reading as a child, which ignited the desire to become a Reading Specialist, to face her weakness head-on and to turn it into her strength. She wrote this book and her brother drew the illustrations, based on her personal experiences. She hopes the story touches the hearts of many children so that they will never feel alone.

Katelyn was a Certified Early Childhood/Special Education Teacher for 7 years before choosing to stay home to invest in her own children. She continues to use her masters as a Reading Specialist to tutor children of all ages, with a variety of needs. Her dream is to become an ADHD life coach. Katelyn has a passion for working with children, to instill in their hearts the love of reading, learning and growing.

About the Illustrator

J. Charles FriedeJ. Charles Friedel is a freelance artist whose focus is on illustration and design. He often works in mixed media and found objects. Based in the Chicagoland area, Friedel lives with his wife and three children; he also happens to be the author’s brother! Growing up with his older sister chatting and moving around him offered an all too comprehensive understanding of ADHD. This personal connection made working on this project even more fun and unique from an insider’s perspective.

Based on the author’s personal history with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Hi, Its Me shares the feelings, emotions, and experiences of a child dealing with the many challenges of ADHD.

Offering insight into the world of ADHD and presenting a list of tips, this rhyming picture book for children helps those who struggle with this disorder to feel empowered. It lets kids know the diagnosis doesn’t define them. It communicates they can find peace knowing they’re not alone in the way they feel.
