about the author
Children’s book author Michelle Lander Feinberg has an unlikely work colleague. When she sits at her desk to write her stories, her dog runs in to join her as if he believes that he provides inspiration for Michelle to write her uplifting Cooper the Dog picture book series.
For the Cooper the Dog series, Michelle’s inspiration, in fact, initially came from her old dog, Charlie, a wonderful mutt who most certainly did not think he was a dog; hence the title of Michelle’s debut book in the series, Please Don’t Tell Cooper He’s a Dog.
Michelle believes that a great children’s story is one that is entertaining and humorous but that also has a subtle lesson. She hopes her young readers come away from her second book, Please Don’t Tell Cooper That Jack is a Rabbit, learning the importance of friendship and that friends should celebrate their differences.
As a lifelong animal advocate, Michelle is a strong supporter of animal welfare organizations and does her best to spread the word about the importance of adopting pets from animal shelters and rescue groups.
When she isn’t writing funny and heartwarming stories with positive messages for children, Michelle enjoys spending quality time with her husband and five children, traveling, reading, painting, practicing yoga, and playing golf. She lives outside of Boston, Massachusetts, with her husband, Andrew, their children, and their pets—rescue dog Cooper, and Gus the mouse.

HERE’S OUR REVIEW
Beautifully illustrated, with healthy & empowering messages!
Get ready to have your heart melted by Cooper, a gentle, loyal and brave dog who is confused about how dogs behave. Please Don’t Tell Cooper He’s a Dog is a wonderful story that can be read to the entire family. This amazing picture book is filled with beautiful rhymes on each page and will certainly brighten up any reading experience.
The story follows Cooper, a lovable dog, which overcomes the cruelty of the world to find a nice home. Cooper was found at the shelter, picked up as a stray but now lives with a loving and caring family. He has five human siblings who shower him with attention and love all the time. Cooper thinks he is a human. He likes to do all the things humans like to do. He doesn’t like to chase balls or sticks. He prefers eating from a plate rather than dining from a dog bowl. Read the book to follow cooper and his amazing adventures around the world. This incredible story will be a superb addition to any child’s bookshelf!
This is a book with a great message reinforcing the love between dogs and their kids and the importance of adopting shelter dogs. A good pick for preschool storytime or any child’s personal collection. Recommended. We have fallen in LOVE with the whimsical illustrations. The pictures are so unique, soft, precious, and warm. We found ourselves so fascinated by the magical images on each page that we paused long after the words were read to absorb the beauty and detail.
Final Verdict
Please Don’t Tell Cooper He’s a Dog is a lively book, with its fun rhyming text and adorable illustrations, is sure to thrill the young dog lover. Anyone who’s ever adopted a furry friend will already know the joy of giving a forever home to someone in need.
