OUR REVIEW
Need a picture book to make your children’s bedtime a little spookier? Be sure to check out our latest certified great read, Stan’s Frightful Halloween by Sandra Sutter!
This book is a silly and fun story about a young werewolf named Stan who is excited for the upcoming Halloween and looks forward to scaring the people away. However, his clumsiness ruins his plan as he tumbles, falls down, and breaks his leg a day before Halloween. But this doesn’t stop him from trying to get into different costumes to scare people. From flying brooms to ghosting to tying toilet paper around his body to become a mummy. He tries everything and realizes it’s not that easy to scare people after all. He ends up having the best Halloween party ever.
The images are fun and eye-catching. The illustrations by Chantelle and Burgen Thorne epitomize the fall spookiness that Halloween nights are filled with. Each page has a cool picture of costumes and Halloween décor. I especially adore the page with all sorts of different treats that are available at Stan’s Halloween party such as Spider Pizza, Scary Soda to Crazy Donuts. And the last page includes the recipes of these fun Halloween themed snacks. All in all, the book is cute and not scary at all. Making it a perfect choice for the read-aloud session. Maybe the kids will even find costume ideas in the book!
The story, the message, and the illustrations- all together make it a wonderful book. A great little read for toddlers!
