Sister is a Presenter, teacher, prolific writer, gifted church leader, friend and mentor to many!
Today at Reading with your kids podcast, we had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Sr. Mary Kathleen Glavich, a Sister of Notre Dame of Cleveland, Ohio. She is the author of more than fifty books related to spirituality and religious education. She has also worked on five religion textbook series. Currently she is a pastoral associate at St. Dominic Parish in Shaker Heights. A noted speaker, Sister enjoys giving talks and retreats.
For Sister, writing is a way to live out her faith, work for Jesus, and help bring peace, justice, and love into the world. At the same time, She loves the creative act of writing—finding just the write words to express something, presenting things in a unique way, polishing a piece, and especially touching someone’s life. For her, It’s a joy to be able to do something that is so personally fulfilling.
Listen to this episode as Sister talks about Saints and teaching children about the Saints & introducing them to different Saints. She mentions that too many of us grow up believing that saints are somehow spiritually superior to us, because their sanctity was always the focus of religious lessons. She emphasises on remembering to teach your children that we are all saints in the making! Include the humanness of each saint: their weaknesses, perhaps lives before conversion, etc.
Stay tuned as she also encourages parents to introduce kids to saints by following different Catholic practices at home such as reading different books to kids about saints, watching movies together about the saints & talking about your favourite saints and pray to them as a family. More the children will learn about the saints more they will be inspired to become a saint.
