Every Body Is a Gift: God Made Us to Love
Reading with your Kids Podcast Featuring Monica Ashour
Joining us today on the Reading with your kids Podcast is Monica Ashour, national speaker, former teacher, and executive director of the Theology of the Body Evangelization Team (TOBET), makes the depth and breadth of Saint John Paul II’s revolutionary Theology of the Body (TOB) accessible. She holds two master’s degrees-in the humanities and in theological studies-from the University of Dallas. Her TOB for Tots series introduces small children to the concept of TOB. She then goes one step deeper in TOB for Kids. These books make the mystery of the human person visible in the context of the Catholic faith. Young and old alike will learn to see the body as a gift from God and a call to love.
Monica was the recipient of Bishop Farrell’s 2008 Pro-Life Award for Civic Action and was recently named to the Hall of Fame for her alma mater, Nolan Catholic High School in Ft. Worth. Monica was awarded by the Catholic Press Association for Honorable Mention—First Time Author of a Book, Everybody Has Something to Give. She also received the Excellence in Publishing Award for Children’s Books for her Every BODY Has a Body: God Made Us to Love.
Every Body Is a Gift: God Made Us to Love uses simple language and everyday situations to show young children ages 2 to 5 & how they can use their bodies to receive and give love to those around them. Using examples like blowing bubbles and dancing, it shows them different ways to express love to their families and those they meet. This book helps children see themselves and others as gifts, explores giving and receiving in love, and shows how the gift of self is made through the body. Every Body Is a Gift is a simple, fun introduction to the ways we can give and receive love.
In this episode Monica explains why she has written these books and tells us more about all of the books in this series. She also shares her insights on St. John Paul’s theology of body and describes the message her book gives that Everybody has Something to give and reading these books at a very young age, children begin to see that they are meant to be gifts and this happens through the body. The main message is for them to know their body is given as a gift to them from God and has deep meaning. And if they live according to that meaning, they will find fulfilment in life.
Jed asked Monica how does theology of body help parents deal with their teenagers especially with issues concerning their bodies, their sexuality, and their future. Listen and hear what Monica has to say – you might be amazed!
