Our guest in this exciting episode of the Reading with Your Kids Podcast has been practicing dental hygiene for 10 years and received her Masters in Dental Hygiene in 2016. Please welcome dental hygienist and a children’s book author, Katie Melko to the show!
Katie is joining us to celebrate her debut picture book “Paw Elementary: Roxy’s Adventure to the School Dentist“. It follows the adventure of puppy Roxy, who is nervous about going to her school’s dental clinic. This is a great gift for kids who might be nervous about seeing the dentist!
Katie hopes these book will help the children in our lives experience those early milestones that seem scary, with ease and comfort. And hopefully, they discover that they have a friend in Roxy!

Here’s some information about Katie Melko
Katie has been practicing dental hygiene since 2009, she is a public health hygienist, teaches at Lincoln College of New England, and an author. She received her Masters in 2016 and loves to write, educate, and give back to her community.
The inspiration behind Katie’s books comes from her first furchild, Roxy. She was by her side through 10 years of schooling, a marriage, and three different moves! She was so fortunate to have her in her life for 12 years before cancer took her from Katie. She is the main character in Katie’s children’s books and she hopes you will love her as much as Katie always will.

Roxy discovers that Paw Elementary School is having a dental clinic day and she’s very nervous. What will happen during Roxy’s first visit to the dentist? What will they do to her teeth?
